Wheathampstead, 2 Ayots and the river Lea Inbox

A great walk, enjoyed by 6 of us. Fields, woods and small hills, all very quiet, away from roads. Past Shaws corner, shut as usual., but we could see the garden. Finishing up past a stretch of the river Lea. Lovely weather.
Excellent pub, albeit right next to the A1(M).
East Lane car park AL4 8SB at the East side of Wheathampstead by the river Lea. About 1 hour from W. London. A1 (M) to Junction 4 take B653 towards Wheathamsted, Harpendon and Luton.
The route is undemanding, we cross fields to get to Ayot St Lawrence, passing George Bernard Shaw's house. Down to Ayot Green for lunch. Afternoon past Brocket Hall and along the river Lea back to Wheathampsted.
There are 2 pubs in Ayot Green, The Red Lion and The Waggoners. The Waggoners seemed friendly and said we could just turn up! Or bring your sandwiches.
This is a circular walk with no nearby station as I am still rather timid about public transport in rush hour in these Covid times. I hope cars and lifts can be organised. As I have not reccied the walk I hope you will find East Lane Car Park – best bet is a good sat nav as my directions are a bit vague. It certainly is on the east side of Wheathampstead near the river.
